Green Fleet
The City of Columbus has approximately 3,100 on-road and 2,800 off-road vehicles, which consumed approximately 3.6 million gallons of fuel in 2007. As part of Mayor Coleman’s Get Green Columbus initiative, the City is working to reduce vehicle fuel consumption and emissions. The Mayor released an update to the City’s Green Fleet Policy, going into effect on January 1, 2008. The goals of the policy are to reduce fuel consumption, to buy greener vehicles and to teach green driving skills to all Columbus employees. In addition, the City is taking a "No More Dirty Diesels Pledge" - we will retrofit or retire pre-2002 diesel vehicles by 2012.

Central Ohio Goes Green
On October 4, 2007, Mayor Michael Coleman joined with elected officials from 12 other local jurisdictions in signing the Central Ohio Green Pact. The Pact represents a new, multi-jurisdictional commitment to Get Green with policies that enhance and protect the quality of life, environment and economic vibrancy of our region. The Pact affirms that it is in the best interest of our residents, business community and natural environment to take practical steps to protect our air and water, to preserve natural resources, to increase green space, reduce our consumption of raw materials and increase recycling. It commits central Ohio leaders to lead by example, through a series of common sense steps to greener growth, management and living for our jurisdictions.
